Imidazoline corrosion inhibitors are a type of corrosion inhibitor. Today, editor Ke Ling will introduce the main classification knowledge of corrosion inhibitors based on their chemical composition.

According to the usual classification of chemical composition of substances, corrosion inhibitors can be divided into two categories: inorganic corrosion inhibitors and organic corrosion inhibitors. In practical applications, corrosion inhibitors are often not a single component, but a combination of multiple components to fully utilize the "synergistic effect" to increase the corrosion inhibition effect.

Inorganic compounds were commonly used corrosion inhibitors in the early stages, such as nitrite, chromate, phosphate, arsenide, ammonium cyanide, etc. However, most of them were not satisfactory because they had some drawbacks, such as toxicity and low corrosion inhibition efficiency in acidic media (such as the deposition of chromate oxide during chromate treatment often causing blockage; the toxicity of arsenide is high and there is a risk of hydrogen embrittlement), and have been replaced by organic compounds.

Organic compounds are widely used as corrosion inhibitors and are constantly developing. Commonly used include chain like organic amines and their derivatives, imidazolines and their derivatives, quaternary ammonium salts, rosin amine derivatives, alkynols, etc.
