French oil major Total (TT.US) is planning a major revamp of its largest refinery in Europe in the second half of 2025, according to three people familiar with the matter.
A person familiar with the matter said maintenance work at the Antwerp plant was scheduled to run from September to December and involved a crude oil processing unit. Another person familiar with the matter said the repairs also included repairs to the larger of the two main gasoline production units delayed this year, as well as to the furnace.
The Total refinery is the largest in Antwerp, located in the heart of Europe's oil trading hub. It is also the company's largest oil processing plant in Europe and can process about 340,000 barrels of crude oil per day.
The refinery has two gasoline units called liquid catalytic converters. One of the people said the larger of the units would be fitted with new reactors during a shutdown in 2025.
